World Environment Day 2017:
June 6 - 930am to 2.00pm
Thousands of South Australian school students flock to Adelaide Botanic Garden each June to celebrate World Environment Day – the state’s biggest WED event.
Students take part in a range of interactive environmental presentations covering important topics from Aboriginal tools for living, preserving endangered species and native bees, through to worms and compost, food security and feral invaders.
Presenters from respected organisations such as CSIRO, Sea Shepherd, Cleland Wildlife Park, KESAB, Botanic Gardens of South Australia, SA Seed Conservation Centre and State Herbarium regularly attend to impart their knowledge to the state’s budding environmentalists.
World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
Adelaide Botanic Garden has educated tens-of-thousands of SA school students at its annual celebration, which started in 1996.
